Why Aeshna?

The natural world is a deep inspiration for our work.  The harmony, interdependence and diversity of different forms of life and variety of beings teach us plenty.  So the company is named after a bug.  But not just any bug.  Aeshna is a genus of dragonfly but is a stand-in for all dragon-flies – a remarkable form of life with many admirable traits.  See if this resonates with ‘leadership’…

Adaptability

Dragonflies are one of the most adaptable insects. They are known for their fast flight
and their dazzling aerial feats. They twist, turn, change direction in an instant, hover,
move up or down, and even fly backwards. Adaptive to change.

The dragonfly lives in the water, in the air and on land – adaptive to very different conditions.

Maturity

Their bright colors take time to develop; only with maturity do their true colors emerge.

The exquisite iridescent colors result from tiny, light-refracting granules on the surface of their body. Dragonflies reflect the light of others in powerful ways.

Inflection

Vision

Sight is an important part of its powers. Their visual powers are the best of any insects.

Compound eyes, made up of thousands of lenses are capable of seeing in all directions.

Call on dragonfly energy to see you through the veils of illusion to the reality beneath.

Ancient

They are old souls. Estimated to having been around for over 180 million years.

Human friends

Not to forget that they also make the beautiful days of early summer enjoyable for humans by taking care of a healthy mosquito population.

And that’s just the beginning…

Our Focus

We work at several levels of scale:

Individuals
Teams
Senior Leaders
Organizations

Leadership is a quality and a skill for which everyone has some responsibility.  The style, values and authenticity of those leading the organization have an immeasurable effect on the energy and mood of the working context.  And the commitment and focus of everyone in the organization contributes to what we call ‘a leader in every chair’.

The internal cohesiveness of teams and the quality of their connection with other teams and the rest of the organization will impact on their success in producing the results they have signed on for.

Developing organizations refers to supporting a whole system, or a part of it to focus on both the internal dynamics and the external environment, build capacity to improve strategies aligned with their goals and produce the results needed.

‘Development’, coming from the old French word ‘desveloper’, refers to ‘unwrapping’ or ‘unfurling’ something which we take to mean finding the gift within.  If you are old enough, think of developing film – bringing to light the clarity of an image.  In organizations, at all levels, development implies a growing capacity to navigate at ever greater levels of complexity.

We focus on:

Goals

What are you going for, hoping to contribute?

Awareness

Knowing what drives you, your strengths, your opportunities for growth, and how you land for others.

Action

Decision-making is a key ‘executive function’ from a brain science perspective that everyone in the workplace, does. We make decisions all the time to take one action or another, or none at all (which we know of course is also an action). Are we aware of how we have come to make that decision? Our habits, the nature of our consideration, the impact we hoped to have.

Results

What results have we produced with the path we have taken? Is it what we hoped for? Have we reflected on how it went and what we might do differently another time?

I do this work by leveraging 30 years experience in consulting, training and facilitating
in organizations of all sizes, 20 years of coaching leaders in a range of professions, an
early career of community development in rural and indigenous communities and my ongoing learning path focused on adult development.

We will leave you with clear, actionable steps for you to build new values, experiences, and perspectives into your leadership path and your organizational culture, infusing it with what employees need to feel accepted, be their best selves, and do their best work.
