Building Teams

Teams are the engine for getting things done in organizations.  Work environments have become too complex for anyone to go it alone with only one perspective.  Seeking out and gathering in different expertise, different perspectives, different assumptions and thinking styles is the core strength of teams.  It is also the core challenge because now you have to embark on the first step of creating a common goal and shared commitment among a group of independent and diverse thinkers!  Developing coherence in teams builds trust, energy and commitment and is a requirement for high performance.

Research has shown a high level of consistency around ways in which teams evolve.  We develop teams by ensuring that the team:

  • Is united around a common purpose
  • Has a clear idea about its charge and its authority
  • Has the autonomy to determine its own approach to accomplishing the task
  • Assesses gaps in knowledge needed and develops strategies to find it
  • Takes the time to align and cohere along with accomplishing tasks
  • Team leadership demands the skills of an able coxswain – setting the rhythm for everyone to row together.

We have a number of tools and approaches to support teams in their development.
